I guess you change it as often as you change the engine oil?

My little taishan has done about 5000 miles and i have never changed or done anything with the gear oil , mainly because it looked all a little bit too difficult to fill the gear oil sump back up again I Might have a go later on does anyone know how much oil the gear oil sump takes?

It doesn't take very much, just fill it until it starts pouring out again - that's what I did. It's not like the engine oil where you can do damage by over filling it, I think this oil is merely to grease a few parts.

I shouldn't worry, just use normal engine oil - 10w/40. That'll work fine.

Didn't have the guts? Like the Dr. Pepper adverts: What's the worst that can happen? ;D It took me about 3 days to find where the oil went which isn't a bad result for me.

Hey I know this thread is a little old, but I used a straw to fill up the gear oil. It's a little easier than finding a syringe, and you can pick one up for free at your local KFC.
