It's not too difficult. You will need, your insurance certificate, your driving license/CBT Cert., the import papers, the cert. of conformity, possibly your invoice/receipt, and £53 cash.
Take this lot to your local DVLA office, tell them you want to register a new scooter, and give them your paper work etc. You may be asked if it is a 'Grey' import or a 'Parallel' import, your bike will be a 'Grey' import, this means it's from outside the EU. A parallel import is from within the EU.
They may say you need to have the bike tested, this is incorrect, your Certificate of Conformity states it passes all European guidelines, this is all they will be testing for anyway. I would insist to speak to a manager if they ask for a test.
All in all, it took me around 20 Min's in the DVLA office.

All in all, it took me around 20 Min's in the DVLA office. Me too, but I didn't realise that they didn't do it there and then and that I had to wait for the registration to arrive in the post. Having said that, I went to the DVLA office on the Wednesday and the documents arrived in Friday mornings post! You can pay by cheque as well, payable to DVLA Swansea.

dazzibhoy,
I just had mine from the internet bike shop, for the price that included registeration. All I have had to do is send them a photocopy of my sons driving licence along with a recent utility bill and arrange for the insurance company to send the documents direct to the internetbikeshop.
They then register in bulk along with all the others and send everything back to me.
They did tell me to start the insurance ten days after I rang the insurance company to allow everything to be processed through the system, so in my case I rang on Monday and the insurance starts next Wednesday.
Here's hoping that everything else runs smoothly.
Ian.

You need the insurance certificate for the road tax, I think I took my driving license as well, plus 2 forms of identification to prove I lived at the address given, like utility bills etc. It's better to take more and be sure, than take less and have to go back again. Here is a list of other items required:- C&E 389, signed with the importers details and address, including port of importation, and Customs declaration number. V267 Declaration of Newness Sales Invoice from dealer EC Certificate of conformity The form V55/4 - Application for a first licence for a new motor vehicle and declaration for registration, is available at the DVLA office when you register the vehicle. I insured my Baotian through Ebike Insurance, (£126 fully comp.) and was able to print out a cover note from their website to use for registration, but this was refused by the DVLA, and I had to take in the cover note that I later received by post.

I took all the forms, and £53.00, into the Nottingham DVLA, and walked out about 20 mins later with the scooter registered, the tax disc, and the form to get the number plate made up.

cant you send of the documents then by post? Yes you can but obviously it'll take longer. When I went to Norwich DVLA they said they wouldn't have been able to register the bike over the counter so I don't know if it's different depending on which office you go to?
