Got a rather interesting email from Sukida Uk this morning. It seems that they are a bit unhappy about some information about their scooters that is lurking on the Techincal Documents page of the chinesescooterclub.co.uk website. Does make you wonder what their problem is.
name: Shirley Wen email: aman@sukida.co.uk
info: Dear Sirs We are the official UK distributor for Sukida. The draft pdf files that you have on your website belong to us and are unofficial draft copies. We need your sworn undertaking that you will destoy these copies before a notary public within 7 days of receipt of this email. In consideration for this we will supply you with official copies but not the parts catalogue. This is not to be made public and we will take very severe action against anyone distributing copyright information. Please remove teh parts catalogue immediately. Thanking you in anticipation Shirley Wen for and on behalf of Sukida Uk

what happened to the freedom of information act that applies in the UK? Whilst the chinese are quick to copy anything that comes out of microsoft, dvd's and music they are worried about their pdf files which can only bring them business in the way of parts or complete bikes.
One wouold of thought in this day and age, a company such as Sukida, gains important free advertisiing by letting their products be known to the general public and only members of the chinese scooter club.
It appears that someone at Sukida has got their knickers in a knot and as the email implies doesn't want anyone to know about Sukida in the UK. The solution is simple. Boycott Sukida. If they want their products known and discussed let them pay for it in the form of advertising. Besides which as this is an open forum members have a right to express their feelings towards such companies, be it good or bad. Oh Wen will they ever Learn that cooperation works better than threats. Another thing, being a distributor does not make them the manufacturiing company ie Sukida themselves. By what authority does this person have to make such demands. Something for everyone to think about. Oh, publicity is hard to get these days, if a company such as Sukida did decide to to take their very severe action against anyone distributing copyright information seriously.
Think of the media coverage the chinese scooter club would get by going to the media and making the issue public.
I personally think, Sukida, should be thanking us for advertising their products and making the company known rather than sending out threatening emails such as this.
Didn't David defeat Goliath?

Maybe Sukida have a spy amongst the members. How would they know what is available to members in here unless they had planted someone in here to report back to them.
Maybe the genie's out of the bottle now and it cant go back. Its a shame such petty mindedness can cause problems not only for the Club but also bad feelings towards a business whose sole purpose in life is to make money.
Greed is a terrible thing.

I suggest an Email campaign - immediately.
We all feel a part of the is forum. we all feel that it is 'our' forum, so we should all act.
I think that we should all email the address for the attention of Shirley Wen expressing our disappointment at their attitude and the stance they have taken.
We need to be polite and make sure we don't over step any boundaries. Perhaps some member with a little more experience of how to word this could come up with a template that we can all cut and paste. That way it acts like a petition and they'll soon notice that the same email is arriving and it shows that we all feel the same way.
We need to point out that, as they well know, the sales of Chinese scooters are rocketing. But as the dealer support is mostly woeful/non-existant then a fair number pass our way - worldwide, and that they may not wish to be associated with such heavy-handed, mean-spirited policies towards the very group who is (partley) responsible for their success.
What do you guys think?
Whatever we do I think we need to do it 'en mass' so It's best we aggree now, I feel

I don't see any copyright info on the pdf's which I would think would be a prerequisite if I were infringing copyright in some way. However for an easy life I have agreed to remove said material from the page. I just hope none of you download a copy before I manage to get it taken offline...........

Besides........., if they're the Official UK Dealer, shouldn't we be receiving some sort of thanks for our loyal support in the face of such dire circumstances that accompany buying a new Chinese scoot and trying to find and 'iron out' the 'quirks' of Chinese manufacturing?
[glow=red,2,300]Imagine [/glow]if one of these manufacturers decided to to 'assist' this forum, either by helping with running costs or providing content, assistance, discounts ( so long as editorial Independence was saved )...just imagine what that could do to their reputation around here.
Precisely [glow=red,2,300]what [/glow]does Shirley think, as a representative of a DEALER network, she is doing to the reputation of the service her company provides. Presumably she realises that the people she is threatening are the ones who were, up until 10.53am this morning, going to buy her product.
Is there a number for Sukida UK?
Lets all phone up and ask for Shirley. when you're connected just say " hands off the pdf!" or "leave the forum alone!" or...or... anyway; something short and pithy that can be easily remembered before hanging up. Something where we can all say [glow=red,2,300]EXACTLY [/glow]the same thing. And if we don't get through, we ask to leave a message. A concerted, consistent effort.
I'm not so bothered by the legal threat, there's not much they can do in 7 days that wouldn't cost them an arm and a leg that would be worth their while. It's just the insult to the very audience they should try and woo!.....and just as was said before - the longer it rumbles, the better for our reputation and the worse for theirs.
Let's not bend over and take this one!

BY the way
Need to point out that Sukida UK is actually simply a reseller of Sukida Bikes. I think that the only affiliation they have with the Chinese Sukida factory is their company and domain name. ( If im wrong, please correct me. Im only pointing this out so that people know that this email was not from the Chinese Sukida factory). In actual fact, sukidauk is actually run from the same place as the Internet bike Shop (who's ad has now been removed from the front page of the chinesescooterclub site.) I also wouldn't be at all surprised if these were the same people behind our new rival forum thechinesebikeforum.com seing as tibs seem to advertise quite heavily on there and all three domains are on the same name servers.

They are frightened we will see what spares they dont have in stock, and we will have the knowledge to tell them exactly what we need, and even then they would probably still send the wrong bit anyway! After my experience with them trading as theinternetbikeshop off eBay I'd steer well clear anyway. Best to avoid Sukida UK all together then. Be aware that SUKIDA UK IS THEINTERNETBIKESHOP!!!!! Oh, dont bother phoning me again Aman!

arn't you really mad about this To be honest im annoyed, but i have neither the time nor the resources to battle these people. I just want an easy life. It's not hurting me in any way as i don't have a sukida scooter. The only ones it affects are the poor sods who have already brought or are thinking about buying one of these scooters. I have changed their ad on the site to point to this thread in the hope that the bad publicity that they receive will far outweigh my getting arsey with them. Let's see if there is any nice sukida dealer out there whao would provide us with these documents without getting the hump.

Maybe the answer to this problem is for someone to contact Sukida, China direct and seek official permission to publish pdf about their products on the forum.
This would stop any bickering from UK dealers or so called distributors.
The Chinese want to promote their products and would be willing to help in any way they could. So how about it? Lets invite Sukida China to become an active part of the forum before any others do the same.

i suspect that "Sukida, China direct" would be more interested in supporting dealers rather then after sales support which could provoke companies who buy 100/1000s directly
I think it would be better to work with the official UK distributor for Sukida in helping people who own the scootsand also maybe the "official copies" will be an improvment over the draft copies and will be more help then the parts manual

Thats if sukida uk keep their word and provide the chinese scooter club with official pdf's and it was not a spoof mail. Even if it was it was a bit heavy handed in the way they went about putting the mesage across.
In this day and age there are two ways of doing things the nice way and the nasty way.
A little diplomacy here would of been far better than the threats that were made in the initial email.

Perhaps if they had asked in a more pleasant manner for you to withdraw the current pdf's and sent the official ones attached to the email.
