Hi all
I rang up for my CBT yesterday, and two companies said it would be £120 (riding one of there bikes from 9am to 5pm) and they would asked me a load of highway code questions...
But when i first done a CBT when i were 17, it only cost £55 (i understand prices go up) and i used my bike with the test only taking two hours, + no highway code questions
So i wanted to know is, what to expext this time round on a CBT, would i need to know the highway code inside out like you would for a driving test, and what other stuff they do on a CBT etc...
(sorry if this thread sounds a bit daft, just need to know)
Cheers

Fist thing I'd do is look for another school, he seems bloody expensive, even with a bike!

I had this quiery a couple of weeks ago as the trainer up here in Shetland charges £164 + no bike, thieving git, and the average came out at about £100, some as low as £85, some higher. I think its wrong, it should be set by Dept. of transport, as is MOT prices.

£164 and no bike, taking the p*ss abit, i agree with you i think it should be a set price... I have found three more companies round bournemouth way what do CBTs and they are all around £100-120, so i guess i will have to pay it, the company im thinking of useing is www.letsride.co.uk as they seem the best out of the six i had to choose from, they offer for £120 - bike, helmet etc, plus all day training, plus if needed extra training at no more cost... Just have to wait three weeks now, till my liecnce comes through.

mine cost £105 with a bike, well a really old honda, but still classed as a bike, and it was about 4 hours long, 2 hours on the road but if i was to say the truth the instructor didn't make it fun at all, but its all worth it in the end

Just did my second CBT today @ KMT which is located at the rear of Elmwood College, Cupar which cost £90 all in, on a Suzuki Van Van www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/model.asp?id=45 not a bad little bike quite well balanced. Only setback was The other guy doing the training was on his third visit so the training took a lot longer than if I had been on my own. Anyway there was no highway code questions as such just a little chat about the highway code. Started at 9am and finished at 3.30pm. Might go for my test sometime in the future to save having to continually renew my CBT.

I Personally, think the CBT's a racket designed as another money spinning idea. Almost every road user once they start using their machines or whatever face gatzo's, the cops, and even break downs.. It all costs money. What ever happened to the good old days when you got a provisional licence, bought a bike, studied the highway code and took a test. If you passed you took your L Plates off. In australia, after passing your test, you have to replace the L Plate with a P plate for 12 months to let other road users know you just got your licence and stay clear of you lol. Seems like theres too many goodie goodie two shoes out there thinking up new ideas to make it harder for peeps to get on the road. Maybe because they got their licence, they come up with ideas to make it harder for others to get theirs... hmm double standards and jealousy maybe.

You got straight off a 100cc twin Yamaha, and got a Kawa Z1 1000. People got killed, thats what! Good business for undertakers and vicars! While I disagree with the present system (where-else could you be banned off the road after 2 years for doing nothing wrong!) something had to be done about the old system. First thing to do is get this cost issue sorted, second thing is to get this rediculos under-power issue seen to, either scrap the restriction or double the engine size for 16 year-olds. These idiots dont seem to hbelieve that an under-powered bike is more dangerous than sensible power, especially on modern roads. Third, ALL learner drivers should pass a bike cbt course at least before being given a learner car licence, that way all drivers would be 'road wise' to bikes, no excuses 'I did'nt see him'.
