Hi folks
Woohooo!!! I'm on the road. Insured and registered / taxed in less than 5 days! I took all documents last Thursday lunchtime to DVLA Glasgow, discovered I didnt have the correct "certificate of newness", the woman got me to fill in a form with the name of the dealer i bought it from, I signed it "PP" on behalf of the dealer and that was it. All she said about the CoC was "awww, isn't it cute!" Phone call at 4pm today (yesterday was a local bank holiday so the office was closed) and the tax disk was ready, job's a good'un! Good luck to all newbies registering next.

You'll be fine, do what I do and ride aggressively!! Don't let car drivers intimidate you, ride down the middle of the lane and if they can't overtake you in the opposite lane then they shouldn't be trying to overtake you at all.

Hi there, i was just reading about the difficulty some of you have had in registering your Baotian. I bought one of these bikes for my son in march. I took all the documents to the nearest DVLA as i thought this would save time as the insurance company said they would insure the bike on the chasis number only for 9 days then they had to have a registration number. Any way they did question the certificate of conformaty initially but after checking with their supervisor they did accept it. However, i was then told they bike would need an inspection. Luckily i knew someone with a van, so we took the bike to the DVLA for the inspection. When i questioned why this was necessary, this is what the inspector told me: if the bike is less than 2 weeks old then it does NOT require an inspection, the reason they have to inspect them after this time is because a lot of rogue traders were trying to pass off a bike as new when it wasn't, hence why they now inspect all bikes after 2 weeks. It was registered the same day but took 3 trips to the DVLA, about a 30 mile round trip each time for me. Hope this is useful info. Kitten.

That's quite interesting but 2 weeks is hardly old. I can't remember what dates were on my COF, I just remember going to the DVLA office and the woman behind the counter having none of it.

Well what can I say. After nearly 3 months of buying my Baotian, it's finally registered. I got the form and tax disc today, and have just been to get the licence plate. Although, it did take a rather sharp letter to convince them. I'd had all my forms sent back 3 times already, so this time, I wasn't taking no for an answer. SO PEOPLE, BE FIRM, AND DON'T BE SCARED TO ARGUE OR DISAGREE.

one of the posts here reminded me of a problem I had registering my Adly Supersonic. The bike was bought from a car garage (apparently a crate of the machines was doing the rounds and he bought one cheap) for well under the list price, but when I phoned for insurance they had never heard of it. The reason was simply that the official British import was called and Adly Activator. The Supersonic name wasn't used in the UK.
Funnily enough you can still see bike reviews of the Activator, but if you look closely at the accompanying picture, the bike actually has the "Supersonic" logo on the rear panel.

Apart from the COC, i believe i need custom and excise paperwork? anybody clear on this? Although your scooter has come from Austria surely it's no different to all our bikes in that all you need is the COF and insurance to register? When you think about it my bike came from China yet I didn't need any customs & excise paperwork.

I have been reading about the troubles with the c o c on taishans well i took all my paperwork to DVLC (in Manchester) handed over £50 for reg and tax and that was it. one week later letter arrived with new reg number. maybe the site could start a list of taishan friendly dvlc offices, so if people have difficulties they could use one of the friendly offices rather than pay £70 for the test. just an idea.
