I know this sounds silly and really obvious, but have you checked the connections into your coil on the other end of the HT lead (Spark plug lead), usually there is a rubber cap on it, just pull it off and check inside for dampness or the spade connectors not connecting or pushed on properley. I had weeks of problems with starting and poor running with my ped, after i checked this and wiped down and re connected the spade connectors, cleaned with a bit of damp start, it fired up first time and I have had no problems since! If this does cure the problem then make sure you turn the idle speed down again. Sometimes it is easier to check for less obvious problems than blame mixtures, valves, carb etc, when the problem could lie with damp electrics....Gotta be worth a shot for nothing, if i remember i will try and post a piccy later of where to find the coil.

Update so far. Have adjusted the idle screw to where it should be, and have tweaked the air mixture screw (it seemed a bit tight to start with as there was resistance almost immediately). The bike was running again this morning, but that's the norm - it likes an indeterminate rest before it'll condescend to start again! However it seems I haven't cured the problem. It seems fine to start with, then on stopping, at the first hint of throttle it dies. I have tracked down a post by member gjm, and reading his posts it could be my bike he's talking about. Does anyone know what happened to him in the end? He ended up replacing the CDI still with no improvement. (I sound like I know what I'm talking about, but in fact as far as I'm concerned a CDI could be a turbo compact disc! ) Thanks for the latest suggestion. I'll be sure to try that as well.

yeah deffo check out the latest suggestion, just sounds exactly like the problem i had, i was going round the bend and ready to ditch it. I had it at two garages and they were both convinced it was a fuel problem but not so.....so it is deffo worth checking.

I has similar with my Taishan nightmare it was! Andy @ Avsco tighten the valves and since then its been fine.
So maybe you should start looking at the valve clearences or best suggestion........
Give Andy@Avsco a call he will be happy to advise I am sure.

I say, chaps, do you think it could be the automatic choke not cutting out? Not sure how they work on these bikes but the symptoms sound familiar..............?

Here's what I did to my 125 when it started doing that. 1) Start engine and go for a ride for 20 minutes to warm everything up. 2) Put scoot on centerstand and have your friend hold throttle so engine runs slightly above idle speed. 3) rotate mixture screw in slowly until engine starts to slow down, then rotate screw out until engine again starts to slow down. The area inbetween the two settings is where you need to be. Rotate the screw back in real slow to the point where the engine goes fastest. Thats it for the mixture. 4) return throttle to idle and see if this cures your problem. If not then adjust the idle speed screw till the engine runs a little faster but wont turn the rear wheel. There really is no other adjustments on the carb to make, they are not built for the owners to fiddle with them. 5) now shut off engine and remove the spark plug. Throw it away. The Chinese plugs are junk. Buy a NKG plug and install it. 6) check the air filter, it may be in crooked or crushed, thus limiting the flow to the carb.

Okay.. Have had the same trouble.. while riding for about 5 minutes.. worked fine.. Come to a stop sign.. idles, motor stumbles then dies.. Starts right up.. Ride again, for a while.. stop, idle stumbles and dies.. What turned out to be for me..was the spark plug wire.. It was rubbing along the tubing for the frame.. and it work a slight amont of rubber off the wire,, that it allowed it.. the spark, to escape at that point insted of the cylinder head.. I moved the spark plug wire away from the frame and "happended' to see the spark. Try moving the wire away from the body of the scooter,, or don't let it touch anything for now.. and see if the motor stays lit for the duration of your ride. If soo.. it may have been grounding itself. Good luck and enjoys the wheels..
