It does say you can go down to a 17, but thats the limit. Cheers Billy

It does say you can go down to a 17, but thats the limit. Cheers Billy It reads to me that 17 (probably meaning 17mm) is when it is time to replace the belt, i.e. when it has 1mm of wear on the outside flat.

I see your point Gavin but the numbers i listed were taken from the belt it's self. I have had the belt cover off a few times now #13#
I have found a few mistakes in the manual

Beed Speed helpful and efficient - although out of stock of "standard" belt and had to buy a "kevlar" belt (much stronger and should last longer although over twice the price @ £26 + £2.50 p&p). PRACTICAL TIP When received could not fit over front spindle and was convinced that was they had supplied wrong size belt. However you need to "open up" the rear pulleys (pull apart by hand - very strong spring behind centrifugal clutch, and "wedge" open temporarily with screwdriver as this will allow the belt to drop in and then fit over the front spindle.

I was curious enough to have a look at mine today (bored with all this festive seasonal stuff). My belt states 669X18X30........I removed the variator(I think) then panicked for a while when I could'nt get the belt back on.......I warmed the belt up a bit and it went on with a little effort........now I'm a bit more confident about the work involved in changing rollers once mine's run in :-)

Courtesy of Cantlogin:
"Couldn't resist chipping in on this one, as I worked in the industrial power transmission industry for 17 years and designed industrial gearboxes, v-belt/variable speed belt/timing belt drives etc.
I wouldn't get too hung up on the 'Kevlar' aspect, a little stretch is no bad thing and softens the drive take up and can help to prolong the life of other transmission components. The 'Gates' manufacture mentioned is top quality (anyone remember 'Uniroyal', they were bought out by Gates, the huge American corporation) and well worth sourcing if available. The recent trend is for Kevlar cords, but Polyester is a close second.
The speed issue is largely irrelevant, as long (as has been said) there is no serious slip (these drives do slip, and some is inevitable) and, of course, the belt doesn't snap! The width of the belt will affect the gearing however, but the wear is so slow that you wouldn't notice until you fit the new, wider one.
Would be worth lightly abrading (with wet & dry paper) the shine off the pulley faces when fitting the new belt, so help it bed in, and to avoid slip."
