Bloody battery had it again. I was told that once they go, rechargeing them might not work. Found somewhere on line that sell them (see my thread in one of the other sections) I hope that this is the only problem. If I get a new battery and it still doesnt go properly, then does anyone think it couild be the alternator (if they have one)?

If you charged it for 18 hours, with an ordinary charger, you have probably done the same as me, and boiled the electrolyte dry, so there will be no liquid at all in in it, therefore it will be the battery. I don't know if just replacing the electrolyte will work, (apparently it is available to purchase seperately), but if you do get a new battery, or refill the old one, it is best to use a trickle charger when charging it, using about 0.5 amp for 5 hours.

I used a charger that had 2 functions for car and bike, even so, the motorcycle chap said that I may still have damaged it.

My charger was the same, 6v and 12v, for cars and motorcycles, but it was for a minimum 20 amp hour battery, and the scooter one is a 4 amp hour. The bit about the 20 amp hour was on a little slip at the bottom of the box, whilst all other charging information was on the actual box.

I charged mine on high with my volvo battery charger 20 AH for 4 days and it ws reading 15.6v and that was 6 months ago its started ever since, when i used a motorbike charger it went flat so i used a big car one and the battery was red hot afterwards as acid inside was boiling.

You might have got away with it, but this is not advisable. When I used an 8 amp charger, and left it overnight, it boiled all the electrolyte away and left me with a dud battery.
