Just a fast one chaps, What size engine motor bike/scooter can you use in the uk on a full uk licence abtained 3/97 ? You're the same as me chap, you can only ride a 49cc or under but the good news is you don't need L plates. Anything higher than a 50cc and it's test time for you!!

if you want to ride something bigger than a 50 then sit a CBT (compulsary basic training) it lasts 2 years and only cost 90 quid, its worth it in the end but u'l still need to have L plates on your bike after you have passed your cbt if its over a 50. Go for it its impossible to fail. my cousin fell off the examiners scooter and still passed. hahaha

I've heard a couple of stories where people have crashed but still passed. You have to wonder if it's just a money-making scam?

I think that the cbt is just the DSA's way of ensuring morons don't jump onto bikes without having a clue. It's just a basic introduction isn't it.

With a CBT do you have to take a theory test or is that just for riders who haven't got a car license?

Aparently is a day spent with an instructor who first gives you a talk on road safety and driving skills, then asks some highway code questions then takes you round a playground teaching you how to ride. Then they take you out on the open road ( a girl at work did hers and told me this so if anything isnt right blame her)

So she didn't say anything about a theory test? I've heard this mentioned on another scooter forum but maybe it's for people without a car license - who knows? Maybe one day I'll take a CBT as I'll soon get fed up of having a top speed of 30mph but doesn't a CBT last for a limited period i.e 3 years or something? Imagine if you had to keep taking your car test or you had to take a different car test everytime you bought a car with a bigger engine. I can understand why you have to have a CBT but I think when you've done it once that should be it.

It lasts for 2 years. I agree. See no reason to have to re-take it. Do people forget how to ride a scooter having not been tested for over 2 years?

YAY......Got my third star today!!!!!! :-) Well done chap. Maybe I should set the counter so you only get 2 stars after 100 posts? Don't worry, I wouldn't do that - I can see how excited you are about getting 2 stars. ;D
