just one more thing before my scoot goes for her MOT. found out that the front brake switch is missing, the brake works but the brake light doesnt come on while the brake is on. its only a small round switch with about 10" of 2 wires that connect to the multi connector. i've read in this forum that these chinese scooters are really all from honda machines, so does anyone know what honda make the taishan commuter is from? will pop to local bike shop tomorrow but would really like to sound like i know what im talking about. thanks. wannabe scooter rider.

There are only a few diff brake light switches, as there are only a few diff brake levers. Motorcycle manufacturers dont make brakes, they buy them in. The switches are made to suit the brake lever not the bike. Try a Honda SH50 one or similar (postmans bike)

my local scooter shop had the brake switch, was for a honda, cost a fiver. booked the scoot in for a MOT monday morning as now everything is working as it should. so far only spent £35 on the bits, including paint, so will be more than chuffed if it passes. will let the forum know how it goes.

Best of luck! Going for an MoT can be like a visit to the dentist, but don't worry. One tip, take your registration docs with you. Sometimes the frame number can be hard to find on a plastic scooter. (Syms are a nightmare!) If the tester is lazy he can get the number off your reg doc.

After following the thread for a few days now, you deserve the MOT for all the hard work and effort you have put in making your moped roadworthy and safe to be on the road. I used to hate MOT's but realise they are essential to insure only safe vehicles are allowed to use the roads. If you have checked everything out and all brakes, lights, steering's Ok you shouldn't have a worry in the world. Some testers are nice guys and will let small things through as long as they make you aware of it and you'll fix it. Anyway, best of luck and I wish you every success with the Mot. regards alan

oh well..... she failed, i'm so gutted now, mad even. heres a list: 1) front suspension forks have inadequate damping effect. 2) rear shock absorber has inadequate damping effect. 3)front brake lever pivots excessively worn. 4) headlamp aim too high. 5) front position lamp incorrect colour. 6) motorcycle rear red reflectors missing. so, 1 and 2 i have just ordered from partsforscooters.com as i used them for the magneto and found the service very good and fairy quick. no.3, the front brake handle needs an extra nut in it to keep it from moving quite so freely. no4. no problem, just alter the beam. no5. on the front panel i have 2 orange lights, look nice i think, but tester said against the law, are meant to be clear, looked everywhere on net this morning but cant find any anywhere! thinking of trying to make some out of clear plastic....any ideas? no6. rear reflector is orange, once again wrong colour, should be red, didnt think to check it before hand, no problem , will take it off my old aprillia rally. which i need to sell by the way, back garden is getting a bit cluttered, lol so, hope the forks/shock absorber arrives within 10 days i'll take it back for a retest. if it fails again i shall give up, sell, and save up for a brand new one, wish i'd done that in the first place, thanks for all the well wishes, sorry i didnt have good news to tell. but hopefully this can be a warning to others getting ready for a MOT. also tester said he doesnt know how these bikes get in the country with so many problems. hope mine is the worse we have here on the forum.

Oh dear, it seems you are suffering from "Grumpy MoT tester syndrome". We've all been there....When you take it back, book it in on a Friday PM. Your man was probably grumpy because it was Monday!
Whatever, he had no right to pass comment on your bike like that, what an A*#@hole!
Hang in there, it'll be ok in the end!

Sounds to me like that tester is a real pain in the bum and has nothing better to do than rubbish chinese bikes. Probably rides a 650cc or somthing like that himself and hates scooters for some reason. Having got his list of whats wrong, I would be fixing it up and taking it to another mot station. That guys too rigid not flexible at all. some give and take a little. May he's suffering from PMT, dunno. Stick in there lady dont give up, you gone this far, go that extra mile, maybe your bike will turn out to give you good reliable service, once you have ironed out all the problems. best of luck, anything the mind can concieve and beleive it can achieve, stick with it.. regards alan

had an email today, my parts are on the way! Yay! one thing i did notice as i took it for the mot, i was going along quite happily at 25 mph, when i felt it accelerate without me twisting the throttle any more than i was...?also the speedo did'nt go any more than 25 even thou it felt a lot more! any ideas?! It sounds as though your bike has been standing for a while. The speedo has probably stuck from lack of use and will unstick itself in due course. The uncalled for accelleration may be due to old petrol left in the tank being pushed out of the way by newer fuel, thus affecting the performance. Unleaded petrol has a shelf life of 3 weeks before it starts to go off.

ok, shocks have got here, 9 days since ordering so not too bad i think. guess ive run out of time for a re-test, unless its 10 working days, have borrowed a meter to check the regulator as it doesnt seem to work properly, headlight dim when revving, but works fine at idle, wonder if this has something to do with the electric strat not working, apart from that i've got a lovely scooter.

A regulator ensures that with a 12 volt system your alternator or dynamo that generates the power maintains a constant 13.8 volts to ensure the battery loss is not only being compensated for but the excess is for anythihg else thats running too. The same with a 6 volt system, the regulater allows about 7.5 volts to maintain the system. If the regulator is faulty and failing to do the job it is supposed to do then eventually the battery will go flat and need recharging. You may well of found the answer to your problem and with a replacement you should have many miles of scootering. All the best for your MOT and hope you pass this time Jane.

tested it very quick during my lunch hour, i understand it is supposed to read 13 volts...... mine is only on 10 for the most! during revving it went down to nearly nothing, back light and headlight are so dim can hardly see they are on, its gonna have to wait for weekend now before we can really spend some time on it. feeling like.solve one problem, find another.
