Hello there
I wanting to get a scooter but am worried about the reputation of the quality/reliability of Chinese imports, was looking at the retro styled Baotian BT50QT-11 which is lovely, but am worried about extra/hidden costs, lifespan and maintenance. Erm not planning on getting it in pink though.
Any reviews or anything I could read online or advice I can get is much appreciated.
Thanks
Jen

thanks for your message.
do you know if a 50cc model will be restricted? I am also trying to find a place in Central London where I could go and look (and sit) on one. Can't seem to find anywhere, any recommendations?
the place I want to get my bike from is online and mail order only. they also said that I will need to " Minimal assembly. You just need to put the front wheel, handlebars and wing mirrors on. Takes 30 minutes. We supply you with registration pack, just complete with your details."
what do you guys think?

you need to spend time getting them right by getting them right i mean learning and playing with the carb at the very least once they are up and running you wont have no worries with the bike
The build
you will need to
unscrew the many bolts and remove the bike from the frame it comes in this is easy but takes a while and when you see the bike in bits can be scary
put the front wheel on
This involves sliding the disk brake between the brake pads which is also easy but will take effort
handle bars
you will need a spanner set again quite easy but it can be effort to tighten the bars to the frame you will allso need to push some of the wire connection blocks together quite easy
wing mirrors = easy no problem
battery = you will need to pour the acid into the battery real easy and also connect the battry to the scooter same as putting a car battery in a car
getting it started
you may need to pour some fuel into the carb another extra little job this will involve taking the carb lid off and putting a bottle cap full of petrol into the carb top
other problems might occur when you first try and start like loose wires etc which will need to be fixed before you can ride or even start the scooter
also sometimes you get faulty horns lights etc which may need to be replaced
once the bike is up and running you will more then likly need to ajust the fule mixture screw and other small tweaks
hope this helps you choose if this is the bike for you

thanks for all the advice! I have pasted the spec, beginning to think that maybe it's not a good deal?! eg is there no V5 because I have to register? How long does that sort of stuff take? Also, the whole taking the bike apart thing? scary? really scary!!

i have one i got mine from baotian uk it cost a little more but it was delivered completly built and ready for the road (taxed number plate and so on ) unless you know what you are doing i cant recomend you buy a n unbuilt one from what ive heard the instructions arnt very good yes they are normally restricted but there is a guide on this forum to derestrict only takes about 20 minutes after a few minor teething probs mine always starts and is reliable and are nice little scooters

thanks for the advice. your baotian is what I am after, couldn't really make out whether it was black and white or black and silver. I am after a black and white one.
however it seems like a bit of hassle. have to assemble and register. and i can't even sit on one.
your pic is interesting, compared to the Gilera it seems a fair bit smaller, I am 5' 6", is this going to be too small for me? does anyone know a bike that is a similar size that I could go and see.
am going to um and ar now, not good!

you dont neeed fully comp, just go for third party, by the time you put the excess on, a claim will be worth the bike itself

thanks for the help but the third party quotes are not much less. and there's me thinking that running costs are going to be alot less! I pay the same for my car ins (ok 7odd ncb) but still!

Have you tried contacting your Car Insurance Co, jen? They might be more sympathetic.
