I've been riding the baotian BT125 for about a month now, and keep getting problems. First the drive belt completely disintegrated and had to be replaced, and now the bike's making a tinny rattling noise. Quite worrying, will be changing the oil on it in a mo, hope that will sort it. It also worries me that Trade Imports, some company of ebay appear to have vanished off the face of the earth. I'm not so confident about this bike and can see myself having to fork out for a decent 2nd hand Aprilla.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chinese scooter ownership. You'd be bored if you owned any other make as problems could easily be fixed - where's the fun in that? I think Trade Imports have gone bust, somebody mentioned them on here a few days ago.

Next time I have a problem with this piece of crap, I will be selling it for one pound sterling. I'm serious, I'll let the forum know when ready.

Someone on here might give you £2 so don't be too hasty in selling it for a pound.

Actually, I'll just sell it on ebay. Got it back from the mechanic, who has removed the kickstart mechanism as it was grating against the gears..
So far the problems I've had are the drive belt disintegrating after 100km, oil leak, and knackered kickstart. I'm wondering what's going to go wrong next.

Hve faith chap, they're great little scooters when they go right. Have you had yours long as it's always a dampner when things go wrong so soon after you've bought something.

Just had a bit of a ride for the last hour. Nothing went wrong. Maybe it will work out after all.

That's good news, think positive. I think with these Chinese scoots you're always waiting for something to go wrong because people keep telling you they will.

My baotian was unreliable but i think it had a lot to do with me only running it in for 35km. My mate has had his baotian for a year and the only money he has had to fork out was for a new tyre.

I can't comment too much because I've only had mine a few months but I ran it in properly (mainly because I had it for 4 weeks before being registered) and it can easily do 30mph, the speedo reads around 37mph downhill so the engine has loosened up quite nicely. I've changed the oil about 3 times and it's only got 900km's on the clock.

Hey - I've had mine and done almost 500 km's now. I got it from Trade Imports as well, so it would be annoying if they've gone.
Having said that and the fact that the DVLA took ages to register it and required a visit, it is working ok.
I guess I was lucky that it was working ok from the start. It did start making a bit of noise, but after changing the oil , it does seem better.

I've had enough of this stupid bike. It's been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it. Finally today, after 3,000kms the exhaust fell off. After this endless crap, I've decided to send it to to the big bike maker in the sky and buy a brand new 125 motorbike with a well known brand, which I can easily find parts for and mechanics willing to work on it.
In total it has cost me £600 for the bike through the now defunct trade imports, £100 for delivery, the other costs to regsiter it and about £500 for repairs over the last 3 or 4 months.
£1300 for 3000kms use is not what I regard as cost effective.
The only good experience I've had is being introduced to this extremely well managed forum.
Goodbye everyone.
An Ex-Baotian owner

Blimey chap, I'm not surprised you're peed off. #crying#
I had trouble over the past few weeks with my Peugeot so I phoned the dealer up, took the bike down there this afternoon and within 30 minutes it was all sorted - turned out to be a faulty spark plug.
That's the great thing about buying a scooter from a well known brand with lots of dealers close by.

I have had my BT125T for nearly one year and use it every day for work ,have done 5000k already had it serviced regually and have not had any problems. Can anyone tell me where i can get spare parts -airfilter, brakeshoes etc from i live in East london? one has to remember when buying a bike from China that you not paying for a tried and tested bike like the Peugeot. If you where to spend£650 00 on a second hand bike what would you get for your money?

ritchierich,
I think that the AirFilter is washable.
Other parts, I bought my Bike from the Internetbikeshop and they told me that they think that the consumables are yamaha copies. They mentioned that the packaging for the bikes they receive from the manufacturer is wrapped in yamaha logos. They told me that generally, if you go into a bike parts dealer, with the bit you want to replace, they should be able to supply it.
The Internet Bike shop didn't say this, but I recon it may be worth suggesting that it's a second hand Yamaha Cygnus about 5 to 10 years old. That's the nearest yamaha picture I found on the internet. But still take the part with.
