Hi all from a complete novice and I aint afraid to admit it. I am the proud owner of a Baotian BT125 and whilst I am pleased with the machine it seems soooo slow, top speed approx 55mph. My question is, are these machines restricted and if so can anyone advise how to derestrict? All comments will be gratefuly received Cheers

They are restricted to 55mph and they can be deristricted but I dont know how. If you got the bike from www.baotianuk.com they should tell you how to do it.

I dunno. If the bike is the same as the 50cc chek the cdi for a pink wire. There is a derestriction guide for the 50cc in here somewhere, you could see if that helps or get in contact with who you bought it from and ask them.

No. Baotian UK are not to be confused as UK representatives of the company 'Baotian'.....
"Baotian UK" is a trading name of a UK company that sells Baotian Scooters, with the endorsement of the manufacturer.
So if you didn't buy your Scooter from Baotian UK, they quite understandably won't deal with you, same as a Vauxhall dealer wouldn't fix a problem with a car bought from a Fiat dealer.
However - I'm sure it's pretty easy to de-restrict the Baotian 125s, it certainly is to de-rezz the 50s.

I dont think 125's are restricted, mines not, as there is no licence/age requirement. Mine is the Sukida T3, same as Baotian T9. They do, however loosen up at about 750 kms, and the biggest improvements were to change the plug for an NGKCR7HSA or HIX, and set the valve gaps to 0.08mm. Open up the air box and take out the slide-in nozzle at the top rear, this is the only restrictor I know of on these bikes. There is no infamous pink wire, the plug at the cdi only has 3 wires from it, no pink. Stick with it, be patiant it gets better.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to de-restrict a 125 BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT RESTRICTED !!!!!
The top speed is only governed, by the gearing. When the engine is at full revs the gearing controls the top speed.
(Why doesn't anyone bother to search or read the forum?)

According to the people who deal Baotian bikes they are. If 125cc bikes are not restricted then why can bikes such as the Aprillia RS125 be derestricted from 15bhp to 33bhp.

I think you might be missing the point of Chinese scooters: [1] The price Baotian BT125T-9 [from TIBS] £599. Aprillia RS125 £3724 [2] The scooters are automatic [CVT] transmission, Aprillia has a six speed manual box. [3] Our scoots have a 24mm carb, Aprillia 28mm [4] Compression ratios: Scoot 9:1, Aprillia 12.5:1 [5] Brake Horse Power: T9 = 6.57, Aprillia 15. [6] The Baotian BT125T-7 is advertised on www.baotianmotor.com as the fastest of the 125's at 82 kph [51mph]. Surely a bit of research before purchase and you get what you want to do the job. Remember your tyres are probably rated at "J" which means they can withstand 62mph for ten minutes then are likely to fail.

There is a difference between de-restricting and Engine tuning. A restricted bike has a mechanical or electronic device to limit the top speed, even if the gearing would allow more.
125's do not have any UK requirement to be restricted, 50cc mopeds do - it's the law!

Right ok then just though I'd say. Obviously there is some more experienced people altough I have to say that a bike is restricted to a certain bhp to make it learner legal.

Thanks all for your replies, someone mentioned to me to remove the rubber pipe that goes from the exhaust to the airbox, does this make a difference or could it harm the machine?
