Hi all.
I have recently fixed a problem with my exhaust whereby it was making a lot of noise, but the scooter was running ok i.e normal speeds if a little sluggish.
I fixed the problem by changing the exhaust gasket and the sound has gone, but when I happily got on my scooter to go for a ride, it simply would not pull away. On a flat surface, the engine sounds normal but only moves me and the scoot at a snails/walking pace.
I have checked all that I know (valves/drivebelt is intact/chain in cylinder head is ok/small valve coming off exhaust to control emissions is ok/mixture is fine etc etc)
Someone mentioned my clutch could have seized/broken.
Does anyone have a. any other ideas and/or b. have a wa;kthrough or some way I can check what the issue is.
I am self taught and not very technically minded so keep it simple with me as I dont know much lingo although I can do pretty much anything if I have a walkthrough or similar.
Many thanks

When you go full throttle, does your engine hesitate, does it want to go faster but can't? Just because you fixed 1 problem doesn't mean there are not others. Clogged jets, bad air supply, bad gas, bad spark plug or coil?

Apart from the exhaust noise, everything was working as well as it had been. There was no indication that anything else was wrong with the bike.
My gut tells me its not related to the exhaust problem, but my mechanical knowledge cant confirm this.
From what you have suggested, I may have had warning signs, but no, there was no signs that anything was wrong except the exhaust and I fixed immiediately.
The current problem manifested (or at least it seemed too) in the time when I stopped riding the bike and then fixed the exhaust which was around 3 days whereby it stood in my garage.

When you open the throttle does the engine sound like its delivering clean power without misfiring or anything?
If It sounds good then the only other problem i can think of it your transmission...

yes it does deliver power without misfiring. I put it on the stand and it spins the wheel enough to vibrate the bike on its stand.
Problem is, when any weight is put on the bike (i.e me!) it wont budge more than a few feet on the flat at a snails pace.
If its transmission, whats my next step do you think?

Check to see if wheels move easily by hand just to be sure that the brakes aren't stuck on...
Wiggle the wheels side to side to see if theres any freeplay in them, because you might have a loose wheel nut which would cause when weight added onto the wheels, go at a non parallel angle to the brake shoes causing them to lock up...
If all that seems OK then take the side cover off where the kick start is and have a look to see if anything is visibly broken/damaged..

The wheel moves freely and I have taken the 'kick start' cover as I like to refer to it completely off and removed the variator, checked the rollers and belt and the only think I have noticed is a tiny nick in the belt, which looks as if it will get worse in the future but has not altered the tension at all as the belt is still a pig to get back on.
The nick is about 1 to 2 mm and is as if someone has just snipped at it with a pair of scissors. From my limited knowlege, I think I understand that when the bike hits higher revs the belt moves position over the back clutch area. Would this nick stop this at all?
Back brake seems fine as it spins like buggery when its on the stand. I reckon its diet time for me!!

the size I am it would take a lot to upset me Mick - loose connection on the starter motor eh. when you say loose, was it disconnected completely or just an iffy connection?

Damn and Blast ( and thats the toned down version!) I dont want to play the game anymore cos I am not winning!
I have now fitted the correct exhaust gasket and still scooter only creeps along. Apart from this, the scoooter seems in full working order, just the damn creeping, only just able to move.
I think I have a transmission issue i.e clutch etc. Any suggestions on how I can check it or am I resigned to a mechanic or buying new parts and playing hit and miss?

Rob,
when you're riding it, does the engine rev it's nuts off or does it just sit there & plod at low revs?

It sound exactly as if I was riding it i.e no noticable increase/deacrease in noise. its as if its like normal, just not moving more than an inch or two!

No, its 15 months old and I have done approximately 4000km's its been run in for 1000km's, then de-resticted. Anyone know a link to a walkthrough for taking off/putting back on the clutch or is it pretty straightforward?

if it worked before your mods and now it dont
then i'd reverse what u did
and see if works once again before you make changes with the clutch
