My scoot ticks over lovely and runs very well when in motion. However, when I stop at a junction and then try to set off (only when scooter is warmed up) the revs won't go up, it kind of splutters and dies. The only way I can get it into motion is to use my feet to scoot it into motion, then open the throttle. It's just at that point before the revs rise when you set off that it dies.
Any ideas?

Reset you valves, some say .050mm, others say .10, official Honda dealers work shop manual for gy6 says between .080-.12mm, so I set mine at .10 this morning and its never gone so good. There is a link in hints tips &diy, credits to Billygreen I think.

Is your idle speed right? Should be about 1800 rpm (Not quite enough to move the back wheel)
It should seem fast compared to a car

Cheers folks!
Going to do valve clearances tommorrow. Tickover is maybe a bit low - I'll raise that a bit too!
Scott.

Try adjusting the tickover first, I was having a similar problem and it was cured by a simple adjustment of the tickover screw, about half a turn, or a full turn clockwise, if I remember correctly.

Hi there - and thanks to everyone who replied! ...Well messed for days with this problem, and in the end I figured it was the clutch shoes 'grabbing'. I bought an impact wrench, removed the clutch and 'sanded' the surface of the shoes down a bit (to remove any 'high spots'). I then greased the pins that the shoes pivot on and replaced everything. FIXED!!!!! Now the revs rise as they should and the scoot zooms off! How about that?!?!?!? P.S. In the porcess of thrying to sort this I've had all the bodywork off the scoot twice; check valve clearances; replaced plug with NGK; cleaned the carb TWICE; tried a bigger main jet with a 'free flow' air filter; adjusted the mixture endlessly; and lost countless hours sleep Chuffed to bits now though!!
