Here's one for you to mull over... Got my new Boatian retro, when I start it up I get a metallic chinking noise until the engine catches. Is that right? I know sod all about engines and am not afraid to look like a nob by asking a newbie question!... after all, that's why I spend sssoooooooo much time on this forum just....... Have you taken the belt cover off and had a look for loose items, nuts etc?

Yeah, you are supposed to use a little throttle to start it, it does mention it in the instruction book that comes with the bike.

I had the same problem. I stripped it down and what appeared to be the problem was the start cog from the electric starter. It fires out to engage on start but does not tend to seat back correctly after engine start.
I found evidence of slight wear on the start cog tips. With the engine running, tipping the bike to the left increases the noise, tipping to the right it disappears.
The spring which presses from the cog to the housing was a little underpowered. I simply stretched it slightly, to give it more force, and it has been fince since, although this was only two days ago!!
Fingers crossed though!
