Also, I have free flow filters fitted on my Lotus, which has carburettors, Dyno shows 8% increase in BHP at flywheel. Thats how I know it does work. But is it really worth buying filters then putting it on a dyno for an 8% increase at the flywheel? What does that give you at the drive wheels?

6% approx for a cost of £45 filter and £5 jets!! Bye the way, the car is 180 BHP in normal trim, so its around another 10 BHP - thats 3 x 50cc scoots!!
If you compare changing the original air filter at £25 a shot, twice a year, with a £45 free flow that I don't need to change for 50,000 miles, it is actually saving money..

With a free flow and correct jetting it should be faster!
BUT I think that stock carbs heavily rely on engine vacuum to work correctly. They don't work as well without the airbox maintaining that vacuum. This is what I experienced - If anyone knows the intricacies of the CVK carb, then they can explain it to me.
I see people with different carbs like mikuni and keihin who run UNI and free flowing filters (on their xr50s) to good effect. The CVK carb has a rubber diaphram with a bouncing needle (controlled by engine vacuum). Mikuni/Keihin carbs have a fixed needle controlled by the throttlecable. Switch to one of those carbs and a free flow filter should work great!
