Hi my names Ian and I'm in the market for a scooter for my son who's just about to turn 16.
I would like to start by congratulating you on a most informative forum board, a couple of weeks ago I was looking at paying somewhere in the region of £1500 pounds for a machine until I did a search on ebay and found this link, however having read every message on here, I realise that there are cheaper options so thank you.
You will probably see my name pop up on a couple of ebay auctions over the next few weeks, I will be the zero rated IANF6512 making his first ebay purchase for a £500 scooter (See Phil, not all of us zero raters are pushing the price up ;D)
Anyway thanks for the advice and once I have made my purchase, you will probably see a few more questions appear.
Ian.
P.S. Don't know if any of you noticed this one but here is a guy who sold his Taishan for almost £300 more than he paid for it !! Needless to say I had done my research and did not bid that high.
Item number: 4562211379

Welcome aboard Ian, it's good to have you here!! Zero feedback and bidding on a scooter eh??? Are you sure you don't work for 777Buckaroo? Talking of which, if you see a scooter being sold my 777Buckaroo stay well away as you'll end up paying over £100 more than you need to. If you're looking for a cheap scooter you can't go wrong with a Taishan or Baotian, you'll hear some horror stories but have a good read of this forum and find me one person who's really peed off with their scooter - I don't think there's any. ;D If I was on the market for a new scooter I'd suggest either a Taishan Sport or the Baotian equivalent, I love my Taishan Commuter but it doesn't look as good as the Sport or a lot of the Baotians. I think Taishan Sports are going for £499 Buy It Now which isn't bad, one tip is to go on eBay and type "Baotian" into the search box but make sure you tick the box which say's "search item & description" as there's one company who don't say "Baotian" in their item description - just something like "Brand new scooter, 49cc....".

Hi Ian
Got a silly wee tip for you if you dont want to bid for a scooter on Ebay, I called one of the companies selling on ebay as I didnt know anything about scooters, the company was Cannon2, tel nbr 01623 869 596, based in Nottinghamshire, anyway I was asking about a buy now Baotian BQ-9 scooter, the man said if i didnt want to buy through ebay he'd sell it direct over the phone to me and take off the £25 ebay charge he adds on to the price, think it worked out £465-£470, ok then there was the postage but i'm delighted, the delivery was quick and every time i called the company to ask more stupid questions they answered within a few rings. I was a bit wary parting with the cash to somone i'd never heard of but I paid by visa so knew the insurance visa provides would sort me out if there were any problems with it not turning up, i'd just cancel the transaction. I got the scoot taxed insured etc within the week and i'm loving it........the top box was included and they had it in silver, metallic red and black. Long winded reply but it might help.

See what you mean about 777Buckaroo, I was bidding on a Taishan Sport but stopped at £390. It finally sold yesterday for £560.
What makes me laugh is that another seller has a brand new Baotian Sport on a buy it now for £415.
Makes you wonder if these people willing to pay high prices actually check to see if there is a cheaper option !!

Whenever I see an auction from 777Buckaroo I always find it funny how so many of his bids are from people with zero feedback - no offence. ;D Like you said why would a legitimate buyer pay £100 more for a bike when you can get one from another seller a lot cheaper? Makes you wonder eh???

IAN: Just stumbled across an auction where you're the highest bidder. Good luck!! I'd say bid up to £550-ish.

I'd steer clear of ads that say you have to assemble the front wheel and other bits. Too risky unless you know what your doing!

Thats the one i got in silver, and the same company i mentioned that will take off the ebay charges if you buy it over the phone. I love it!
It came in a metal crate that was harder to get apart than putting the bits on the bike. i only had to attach the handle rubbers, the top box and put the battery in. All the paper work was there, it was delivered exactly on time and is running well...................and registered and insured etc within the week.

In fact, the boxes you see behind the scoot are the others still packaged up, its a metal type framework covered in cardboard, the scoot was well wrapped in bubble plastic too, all the bits n bobs were under the seat. I cant understand how those that need building are packaged as this was already put together and the framework was bolted into the backbox frame. good luck

Hello Everyone
I am thinking about buying a scooter and the most popular choices seem to be the Taishan and the Baotian. Please could anyone advise me on how to tell if the ones being sold under this name are genuine as they all look very similar. Are there any distinguishing features which identify genuine Taishan and Baotain scooters? Thanks

Are there any distinguishing features which identify genuine Taishan and Baotain scooters? Thanks Hello Totters, welcome aboard!! If they're on ebay and they say Taishan or Baotian then they're pretty genuine - just look at the stickers on the sides. They all look similar because they're near-enough the same scooter but with slightly different bodywork.

Thanks Phil I was just worried as the Taishan ones seem to be slightly more expensive than the non branded ones and I was just wanting to know if it is worth paying for the real deal Taishan. I will carry on looking around. BTW Have you seen the price on www.taishan.org.uk/
