Well after months of waiting for my Bpatian to cross the sea to Spain and then two months with it sitting in a warehouse whilst I get the correct 'Documentos'.....I picked up the scoot yesterday!
Didn't expect the electric or auto start to work after that long but started 1st time off the kick, no problem.
Tootled the 5 or 600 METRES up the road to the petrol station and filled her up (had to empty the tank before shipping) def. non leaded fuel - cost me about 3 quid!
Suddenly bike would not start - nothing, nada, zip.
Spent four hours in the baking sun waiting for my wife to pick me up. I have a head as pink as a Lobster.
So what do I look at first?
Couldn't even get the bike back home so that i can take my time and take it apart, it's in the corner of the garage of the friendly car-dealership we got a motor from last month.
All advice is welcome

do you mean "nothing"? check the fuse in battery compartment?
if you've been trying to kick it over, possibly flooded
have you been back to try since yesterday?

Hey there CB50j, in Scotland - WAHEY! Thanks for getting the ball rolling! OK, I have no practical mechanical knowledge, just what I've learned in the four or so months here of looking at pics and reading posts, I did check the battery compartment and the connections were good and the fuse was intact. My first thought was a flat battery - but then why would it start at first and run me the 500 yards on basically just petrol fumes before I filled her up and THEN not start? As for flooding, how long does it have to be left before giving it another go? I had been trying often say every 10 mins but eventually I left it about an hour as I walked off trying to find a scooter/bike shop - there's loads of 'em round here BUT..........THEY ALL SHUT :o2pm - 5pm and it gets better.... Most of them don't open Saturdays! - they just don't WANT to take my money! I opened the inspection panel under the seat and stared for a while waiting for something to speak to me, but no inspiration came. Essentially, I'm in that really effed off phase, mostly cause I've had to wait so long to get on the road - fortunately, that experience of waiting and reading these posts has taught me that this is all part of the game and joy of Chinese scoots. God alone knows what I'd do now without this forum! Just wish I could have got her home so that I could take my time with her ...(Oo-er)

a flat battery wouldn't be a problem when kick starting, it's not a requirement.......... think i'd take the plug out and see if it smells of petrol, if it does, leave it out for 15 or 30 mins then try again...........

OK, are there any previous threads that explain simply about how to get access to the plaugs and swap 'em/check 'em - dunno if it's just me but searching for "spark plugs" on the forum brings up all kind of crazy stuff

Is this a situation where looking at the colour of the plug might tell me more about the problem. seem t remember something on the posts about adjusting the air/fuel mix based on the colour of the plugs. Also it is VERY hot here, would that affect the air/fuel mix?

rite ok, u neec to definatly replace the plug asap, because the standard plugs tht come with the scooters are cheap and ware out in minutes, u need a NGK C7HSA for most chinese 50's n 125's. also check ur cable from the spark plug to the engine, around where the spark plug connects the cable can break easily, if this is the case then re wire the connecter, or get the mechanic friend of yours to help, my scooter did this and it baffled me for ages. If you have no joy with this, make sure the Battery is fully charged and tht all the cables are connected sercurely, from battery compartment to the engine. If You Still do not have any joy try to get hld of a mates CDI box which is like the brain of the bike, this may be telling the scoot not to start. Check Your Fuse connections on battery n fuse itself. And Then again double check all the wires n leads in and around carburetter n spark plug. If you manage to get a whirling noise but no start then try adjusting the "tickover" small screw with spring underneath attached to the carburetter visiable via seat cover, small compartment. If You Still Have no joy message me and i will suggest some more possible solutions to ur mysterious engine failure/non-Starter. Many Thanks, Gaz. Ps. Hope This Helps

OK, SUCCESS!!...of a sort
Not running yet but spent another two hours in a spanish lay-by in 35C heat! Undid all the seat bucket screws etc but could not find a spanner/pliers/socket small enough to loosen the bolt on the outside of the body just between your legs - the nut by yer nutz!, so couldn't get the bucket out.
Accessed the plug from underneath the covers and finally removed it and it was quite oily but didn't really look too worn compared to the pics on the guide posted earlier in this thread.. Can't get a replacement plug yet as mentioned before, so wiped it off and thought I'd check the spark whilst I Kicked it. Can you guess what happened next?
Correct - I got an electric shock. Well done me.
Anyway, wiped off the plug as best I could with some rag and tried again and although it hasn't started it did sound as if it was atleast havin' a go.
Just gotta fine me a new plug now!
The car dealership said they'd let me stick it back in their showroom overnight again - which is a bonus, 'cause if any one of you have seen the movie "The business" with Danny Dyer about cocaine in the '80's, if you remember the very first scene (also repeated at the end) when they're running doen the backstreets with their "shootah's" out with the Rock of Gibraltar in the background - well my bike is in the next street - not exactlly where you'd want to leave a scoot overnight, it's bandit-country, pardner!

!!ITS OFFCIAL!!
My luck has changed, I am ON THE BLOODY ROAD!
Changed the spark and Wa-Hey, I'm away!
Drove home, taking the long route round some back lanes and roads. Not much traffic so I don't have to worry about the Alonso wannabees and go nice and steady and begin the running in. Encountered a couple of hills but the scooter managed them without a problem - none of this dropping to 10mph malarky
So thanks to every one who offered advice to get me going and sympathy as I encountered one problem or Bureaucratic set-back
Perhaps now I can start posting about actual scooting stuff as opposed to the usual p***takin'!

Whoa Hold on Let's not get carried away.
After all the events this morning, when down to the garage this afternoon to start the scooter up again....NOTHING. Having riden around for over an hour and a half this morning thought the battery would be fine, but the remote and electric start gave out nothing, they had a good go but then gave up - even though I stopped a few times on the way back this morning and both the remote and electric start responded firat time-everytime.
Took the plug out and it was a little damp and smelt of petrol so I left it out in the Spanish Sun for a couple of hours and just tried again with the kick and it WILL NOT START!
What on earth do I do next?

definitly sounds like flooding. battery won't last longer than a few bad attemps at starting before giving up. adjust your mixture, everybody shouts about 2.5 turns out, from in....... you're in a completely different climate, make sure your plug is dried out, screw the mixture screw in, then out( I started at ) 1.5 turns, think I'm at 2 just now. don't give it much throttle(1/4 or less) see if she starts after that..........keep us informed
